April updates and a request

Or, how to get a cheap query critique!

Hello, friends!

It’s been a while since I’ve done an update-type post, so I figured I’d let you know what’s going on in the writing world.

But first, an important question. Do you want a $10 critique of your query or first 5 pages? It’s a service I usually offer for $20-30 dollars. Most other editors will charge you double.

I’m now offering it for a receipt of a $10 donation to either Anera (which aids Palestinian refugees) or the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund. We have a real humanitarian crisis on our hands right now, and millions of people in danger of death by starvation, medical crisis, and war.

So if you want to help, donate $10 to one of these organizations, send it to my email ([email protected]) with the subject DONATION CRITIQUE in all caps, and I’ll critique either your query or your first 5 pages.

I’m an agented author represented by Maria Brannan of Greyhound Literary and I’ve been critiquing queries for four years. Check my editing page for testimonials.

Please pass this along to a friend, especially if you can’t personally donate!

And thanks for listening. Now…

On to the updates!

Life

It was my birthday on March 17th! Enjoy the picture (above) of the Chicago river dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day, and a t-rex. I did not take this. It was a stock photo and I thought it was cute. But I have seen the river dyed green, so it counts.

Writing

Writing has been going great! I’ve written a bunch more horror stories. I published a flash fiction horror in Spindle House’s Tales of the Tarot; it’s called “No Matter” and it’s about an artist. And my story “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle” in the Negative Creep horror anthology is available to preorder in either e-book or paperback format.

As far as novels, I’ve totally rewritten Godkillers and almost finished drafting Vae Victus. So yeah. I’ve been busy.

Art

I’ve done more art! I went back to really focusing on sketching and I think it’s done me some good. Here are a few recent pieces.

Music

I’ve been going through my old CDs and listening to the albums (on Spotify, not the actual CDs, lol). So far I’ve gone through Linkin Park, Rise Against, and AFI. What a blast from the past!

I’ve also been enjoying this playlist.

Kthxbye

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. See you next time for more writing advice, reading stuff, and updates.

And if you have a topic you think I should cover, let me know in the comments!
